The focus is on the battery lifecycle: vehicle batteries are repurposed as stationary storage units, for example in spare parts storage facilities, providing an additional use phase before recycling. These versatile battery storage solutions are suitable for a wide range of commercial and industrial applications, can be individually scaled, and contribute to a stable and flexible energy supply. In this way, Mercedes-Benz Energy creates additional use cases for vehicle batteries while combining innovative energy storage solutions with the responsible use of existing resources.

Energy storage device for Fuimicino airport in Rome from reused vehicle batteries.

Energy Storage for Rome Airport.

Mercedes-Benz Energy provides an energy storage system with a capacity of more than 5.5 MWh based on repurposed vehicle batteries for the Rome Fiumicino Airport project. As part of the integrated Solar Farm energy concept, the system supports the storage and demand-oriented use of solar power generated on site.

Large-Scale storage ensures grid stability.

The large-scale storage systems of the joint venture between Mercedes-Benz Group, GETEC ENERGIE, and The Mobility House will remain active in primary control reserve for another five years. With 29 MW of power and 31 MWh of capacity, they help stabilise the European power grid.

MBE Factory 56

Factory 56 combines photovoltaic generation with stationary energy storage.

In 2020, Factory 56 was established at the Sindelfingen site as one of the world's most advanced assembly halls. Its energy concept combines a photovoltaic system with a stationary energy storage system based on vehicle batteries, allowing surplus solar power to be stored and made available when needed.
