Backpack Buddies

Getting life off to a better start with good food.

500 Mercedes-Benz USA employees volunteer with Backpack Buddies to support children in the Metro Atlanta who do not have enough to eat.

Many children who are dependant on subsidised school meals face hunger at weekends and during school holidays. The non-profit organisation Backpack Buddies helps bridge this food security gap by delivering meals and basic food supplies. During National Volunteer Week, Mercedes-Benz employees donated their time and packed thousands of food parcels for children in need.

Being able to count on regular meals gives children the foundation they need to concentrate better, learn successfully and develop their full potential. At the same time, this has a lasting positive impact on their physical health and their ability to participate in society. During the event day at the company’s headquarters, almost 3.3 tonnes of food were packed into 6,000 food parcels, helping to ensure that children across Metro Atlanta have a reliable supply of food. The commitment of the staff within the scope of National Volunteer Week forms part of the corporate social responsibility initiative “Driving Your Future”. With this programme, Mercedes-Benz USA supports education and safety initiatives, strengthening the next generation and helping provide brighter opportunities for the future.

At Mercedes-Benz, we understand the power of community and the importance of working together to empower the next generation. Volunteering has always been an integral part of our culture. And National Volunteer Week is a testament to the collective dedication of our employee volunteers who devote their time to causes that create positive change that help build stronger communities.
