Climate and environment at Mercedes-Benz.

Environment & Climate.

All-electric mobility and more sustainable production: With this vision we are committed to environmental and climate protection as well as air pollution control.

We take a holistic approach to environmental and climate protection and want to achieve improvements at all stages of the automotive value chain – from the extraction of raw materials, technical development and production to service life and recycling. We support the Paris Climate Agreement and are convinced of its goals. That’s why environmental and climate issues are one of our sustainability focus areas. Our ambition is that by 2039, our entire fleet of new vehicles will be net carbon-neutral[1]Net carbon-neutral means that carbon emissions that are not avoided or reduced at Mercedes-Benz are compensated for by certified offsetting projects.
over their entire life cycle.

Environmental Management.

By establishing environmental management systems at our sites around the world, we aim to ensure efficient, high-quality, and more sustainable vehicle production.

Our ambition.

We are pursuing the goal of a fully networked and net carbon-neutral fleet of new vehicles in 2039 – eleven years earlier than EU legislation stipulates. We are looking at the entire life cycle: from development to the supplier network, our own production, the electrification of our products, renewable energy throughout the utilisation phase of electric vehicles, and finally, the recycling of vehicles. Stepping forward to the circular economy approach.

Ambition 2039.

With this core element of our sustainable business strategy, we have set the course for a holistic approach to climate protection.

We are the inventor of the automobile and Mercedes-Benz is one of the world’s most valuable brands. It is our responsibility to carry this legacy into the future. Our most important task right now, during our company’s most far-reaching transformation phase, is to set the course for a successful and more sustainable future and make the right decisions to achieve this. With Ambition 2039, we are tackling one of our most important sustainability goals: decarbonization.
