Mercedes-Benz models in the environmental check.

"We strive to develop products that are highly responsible to the environment in their respective market segments – this is the second Environmental Guideline of the Mercedes-Benz Group.“

Its realization requires incorporating environmental protection into products from the very start. Ensuring that this happens is the task of environmentally compatible product development. It follows the principle “Design for Environment” (DfE) to develop comprehensive vehicle concepts. The aim is to improve environmental performance in objectively measurable terms and, at the same time, to meet the demands of the growing number of customers with an eye for environmental issues.

The results are documented in the externally audited brochures for the Mercedes-Benz cars. Here you will find detailed information on the subjects of fuel consumption, emissions and lifecycle assessment of each model as well as the use of renewable raw materials and secondary raw materials, recycling concepts and many other topics.

In 2005, the S-Class became the first-ever vehicle which was tested from TÜV Süd experts. Here, both the process used at Mercedes-Benz regarding environmentally compatible product development as well as all statements contained in the brochure on the environmental compatibility of the new S-Class were examined and verified in detail. The “Lifecycle” brochure presents the results since 2009. The parallel “Lifecycle COMPACT” edition illustrates the environmental compatibility of the Mercedes-Benz vehicles during the entire life cycle in an easy-to-understand way and also gets right to the heart of the company’s environmental commitment.
