The Mercedes-Benz plant in Untertürkheim is the largest location within the global Mercedes-Benz powertrain production network and extends to several sub-plants in the Neckar Valley.

Today, Untertürkheim is responsible for the production of drive components. The forge is also located here. The Mercedes-Benz eCampus, a competence centre for research and development of future generations of batteries and battery cells, is also being built in Untertürkheim. Engines are produced in Bad Cannstatt today. From 2024, the ramp-up of electric drive units for fully electric Mercedes-Benz vehicles will begin at the Untertürkheim site.

The drive-flexible axle production and the foundry are located in Mettingen. Parts for electric drive units will be manufactured and assembled into electric axles here from 2024.

Transmission production takes place at the Hedelfingen sub-plant. Battery systems for the all-electric EQ models EQS and EQE have also been produced here since 2021. It will also produce parts for electric drive units from 2024.

Flexible production is located in Sirnau and training is based in Brühl. Since 2022, Brühl locates a battery factory where systems for Mercedes-Benz plug-in hybrids are produced. The ramp-up for batteries for new all-electric EQ models will start here mid of the decade.

The Untertürkheim site is also home to a large part of the Group-wide drivetrain research and development with a test track for vehicle testing. Central Van division and its research and development is also located in Untertürkheim. Untertürkheim is also home to the Mercedes-Benz Group AG headquarter.
