The Untertürkheim location is home to the development, production and shipment of engines, transmissions and axles, as well as the Mercedes-Benz Group headquarters.
The Mercedes-Benz plant in Untertürkheim has a history extending back over 115 years and is a high-tech location for the production of highly efficient engines and alternative drives systems.
In the future, the location will also produce batteries for electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids. For this purpose, battery factories are being built in the Brühl and Hedelfingen plant sections. Untertürkheim will thus become part of the Mercedes-Benz Cars global battery production network, which has operations on three continents. In addition, the plant will also assemble and manufacture parts of the electric powertrain in the future.
The plant has a total of six annexes. While Untertürkheim and Bad Cannstatt produce engines and also house the forge, the transmissions are produced in Hedelfingen. Axle production and the foundry are in Mettingen. Training is based in Brühl, and flexible production in Sirnau.
Untertürkheim also has a research & development unit with a banked curve for vehicle testing. The corporate headquarters of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Daimler Truck AG are also located at the site.
