The Mercedes-Benz Group is consistently pursuing the goal of contributing to reducing CO₂ emissions and has enshrined this in its sustainable business strategy. The ambition of Mercedes-Benz Group is to reduce its CO₂ emissions by 2039 by 90 % in own production, by 80 % in vehicle use phase – as market conditions allow – and overall by 70 % across all relevant value chain stages compared to 2019. In addition, the Mercedes-Benz Group supports qualified climate change mitigation projects that meet recognised standards. By 2049 at the latest, the Mercedes-Benz Group intends to achieve net zero. Net zero means that the CO₂ emissions across all relevant value chain stages will be reduced by at least 90 % compared to 2019. Remaining CO₂ emissions (< 10 %) will be neutralised permanently.
We are also involved in conservation outside of our own operational business activities by continuously supporting projects to promote biodiversity and the renaturation of ecosystems. In this context, we rely on the support of external organizations and foundations, such as the Global Nature Fund. The Mercedes-Benz Group is also involved in various associations, committees, and initiatives.
Through regular internal communication, we raise awareness among our workforce about the importance of biodiversity and thus support the successful implementation of our goals. In addition, we communicate current measures and developments regarding biodiversity in our Sustainability Report.
