Artificial intelligence at Mercedes-Benz

Innovation along the entire value chain.

At Mercedes-Benz, artificial intelligence is deeply integrated in our workflows – strategically, scalable and with a strong sense of responsibility. AI supports our teams by automating routine tasks, enhancing creative processes and enabling faster, more precise data-driven decisions. AI is seen as a copilot that creates space for innovation and delivers real value to both employees and customers. Together with strong partners, we’re driving innovation and shaping the future of mobility as a tech frontrunner.

In development, AI accelerates the journey from idea to innovation, helping us bring high-quality solutions to the road faster and more efficiently. In procurement, data-driven analysis of supplier offers enables quicker, well-informed decisions. In production, AI boosts quality and efficiency through automated processes and intelligent knowledge management in our plants. In sales and marketing, AI helps craft targeted strategies and personalises customer interactions. In aftersales, Mercedes-Benz uses AI to enhance customer service and optimise maintenance processes. AI not only supports our teams in their daily work – it also powers the backbone of our IT, such as software development, by increasing precision, speed and relieving workloads. Across the entire value chain, our ambition is clear: intuitive applications that empower our employees to actively and independently use AI. This is how we create value for the entire company.

At the same time, we consider the risks that may arise from AI technologies. What truly matters is how we apply and use AI. A responsible approach to deploying and utilising AI is essential to us.

Smart copilot Innovation accelerator Intelligent partnerships

At Mercedes-Benz, AI acts as a copilot: it takes over routine tasks, creates space for creativity and boosts efficiency. To unlock AI’s full potential, we need more than high-quality data and modern infrastructure – we need empowered teams. That’s why we’re investing specifically in our employees. Already this year, the company has doubled the daily AI usage rate among its workforce.

Comprehensive learning opportunities, hands-on training and digital tools that promote safe and productive use of AI foster a company culture where AI is not only used but actively shaped.

Through the company-wide initiative “Artificial Intelligence Center of Competence,” Mercedes-Benz promotes the use of artificial intelligence across the organisation. Acting as a central hub, the initiative supports promising AI ideas on their path to broad adoption, connects experts throughout the company and ensures rapid implementation into products and processes. The focus is on safety, transparency and accountability. The AI CoC offers training for employees – from administrative staff to professional software developers – and develops standards and intelligent tools to make Mercedes-Benz future-ready with AI.

Innovation thrives through collaboration – where expertise and vision come together. That’s why Mercedes-Benz relies on strong partnerships with academia, government and other companies to drive technological excellence in the use of AI. Engaging with external partners allows us to gain fresh perspectives, share best practices and co-develop solutions that sustainably strengthen our competitive edge.
One example is our membership in the Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence (IPAI) in Heilbronn, with which we want to promote the responsible use of AI in industry, accelerate innovation and strengthen Europe as a technology location. The platform brings together experts for strategic exchange in order to jointly develop standards, use free and open source software more effectively and simplify regulatory processes.
