Since 2012 Deutsche Accumotive, a wholly owned Mercedes-Benz AG subsidiary, has produced drive batteries for hybrid and electric vehicles for Mercedes-Benz and smart, as well as commercial vehicles at its Kamenz location.

The Kamenz site comprises two battery factories and is an important part of Mercedes-Benz Cars global battery production network, which has locations on three continents.

The second battery factory, which began operations in 2018, relies on state-of-the-art systems and uses a wide range of Industry 4.0 technologies. It is also designed to be a CO2-neutral factory: a cogeneration plant and a photovoltaic system combine with geothermal energy to supply the production plants with energy. The second factory manufactures, among other things, drive batteries for models from the product and technology brand EQ.

The extension has quadrupled the production and logistics area in Kamenz to a total of around 80,000 sq. m.
