May 20, 2022 - We are convinced that ensuring a balanced gender mix in our leadership structure is critical to our business success. This is why we have focus on the promotion and advancement of women within our diversity and inclusion strategy.
Back in 2006, we were one of the first companies in Germany to set ourselves the voluntary target of increasing the proportion of women in senior management positions to 20 percent worldwide by the end of 2020. This goal was achieved. At Mercedes-Benz, the proportion of women in senior management positions worldwide is currently 22.5 percent (31.12.2021). The Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG is 37.5 percent female: Three of the eight Board members are women. (31.12.2021).
Senior management positions for qualified women
The advancement of women is and remains an important and challenging area of focus. Our claim is clear: We want to fill more senior management positions with qualified women, and aim to achieve a share of 30 per cent in 2030 as a next step. We take a holistic approach - starting with recruiting, up to making our working time models even more attractive.
To ensure we attract and recruit female talent into our pipeline, we participate in numerous career information days and the annual Girls' Day. In addition, Mercedes-Benz has launched the education initiative Genius. In this way, we want to inspire children and young people for technical professions and promote the next generation of engineers. We also attend university fairs to attract women to a career at Mercedes-Benz.
A variety of measures support women at Mercedes-Benz in their individual career planning. Among other things, Mercedes-Benz offers a range of different mentoring programmes for female managers and staff members. This includes, for example, "Bertha's Daughters", a mentoring programme that focuses on developing female talent. The programme takes its name from Bertha Benz, Carl Benz's wife, who in 1888 made the first long-distance journey with her sons in the production model of the Patent Motor Car, thus laying the foundation for a new industry. In addition, international networks of and for women support the exchange of ideas and experiences.
Equal opportunities for all employees
Our Diversity & Inclusion Management is based on equal opportunities for all employees. The aim is to attract and develop the best qualified professionals and managers for the company - regardless of age, ethnic origin and nationality, gender and gender identity, physical and mental abilities, religion and world view, sexual orientation and social background.
