Electric Vans
In eVans, Mercedes-Benz Vans combines all of its activities related to electric mobility and demonstrates how efficiency, economy, and reliability function in a transporter.
Mercedes-Benz Vans is a pioneer and leading manufacturer in the field of electric vans. The top seller for electric vans is the eVito, followed by the eSprinter and EQV.
As early as 2010, the Vito E-CELL was the first small series of battery-electric vehicles to roll off the production line. Today's electric portfolio includes both mid-size (EQV, eVito and eVito Tourer) and large-van (eSprinter) vehicles and will be supplemented by all-electric small vans (eCitan, EQT) in 2022. The eVito was already presented in 2017, followed by the eSprinter in 2019 and the EQV. Mercedes-Benz Vans is thus offering an all-electric model variant in all segments and has electrified its entire portfolio.
Since 2010, Mercedes-Benz Vans has built up extensive expertise in the production of eVans, especially with regard to flexible production on a single production line. eVito, EQV and eSprinter run from the same production line as their internal combustion engine counterparts. This offers the advantage that the production can be adapted very precisely to the actual market needs and no additional production lines had to be set up.
The modular concept of the new eSprinter allows for maximum synergies in production and therefore corresponding economies of scale. The production sites of the new eSprinter are the Mercedes-Benz Vans plants in North Charleston, SC/USA, Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde, Germany. In total, Mercedes-Benz Vans is investing around 350 million euros in the new eSprinter from 2021 to 2024, with around 150 million euros of that being invested in the adjustment of production at the three plants. As sustainability is a central guiding principle at Mercedes-Benz, the new eSprinter is produced net carbon neutral.
Second quarter sales of eVans, which increased by 32% year-on-year, leading eVans to account for 7% of overall sales, and to total 10% of Europe sales. A further customer highlight was that Mercedes-Benz Vans concluded the largest single order of eVans ever with 5,000 electric vans to be delivered to the Amazon’s transportation network within the coming months.
Beginning of 2026, Mercedes-Benz Vans intends to expand its model portfolio within the private van segment with the VLE, which lately successfully underwent long-range testing traveling almost 1,100 kilometers from Stuttgart to Rome with only two short charging stops of 15 minutes each.
