Mercedes-Benz R&D India (MBRDI), headquartered in Bengaluru was founded in 1996 as a captive unit to support Mercedes-Benz research, IT and product development activities.

We started with a focus on topics ranging from CAD, CAE and IT programming for all Mercedes-Benz business units. Meanwhile, we have moved up in value to cater to advanced topics in vehicle engineering and IT technologies. We are now responsible for new methods in Design and CAE, software content for control units, headunits and various critical engineering tools.

Important components of the Digital dependencies on overall product development, is located now at MBRDI. The satellite office in Pune specializes in interior component designs and IT engineering. The establishment of MBRDI is in line with the Mercedes-Benz Group AG ambition^[1]The ambition of the Mercedes-Benz Group is by 2039 to reduce its CO₂ emissions by 90% in its own production, by 80% in the vehicle use phase, where market conditions permit, and by 70% across all relevant stages of the value chain, compared to 2019. In addition, the Mercedes-Benz Group supports qualified climate change mitigation projects that meet recognized standards. By 2049 at the latest, the Mercedes-Benz Group intends to achieve net-zero. Net-zero means that the CO₂ emissions will be reduced by at least 90% compared to 2019. Remaining CO₂ emissions (< 10%) will be neutralized permanently.

MBRDI also aims to partner closely with suppliers in India for its activities in product development and IT services. It is now one of the largest development centers outside Germany, employing over 5600 skilled engineers. It has established itself as a valuable centre to all business units and brands of Mercedes-Benz worldwide.
