Multimedia systems in the vehicle

Network on board.

Being online at all times – on board of a Mercedes, this is a matter of course. Connecting the vehicle to the cloud, multimedia systems make it part of the Internet of Things. The highlight of the latest infotainment generation is COMAND Online: Music streaming, car-to-x communication, traffic information in real time – no problem at all. The operation of the systems is intuitive. Connectivity in the vehicle is becoming part of everyday life.

Whether smart, Sprinter or S-Class: In all model series, customers have the choice between several multimedia systems. The smartphone can be integrated very easily via Bluetooth. This means that anyone can also use selected apps, listen to their personal playlist or access the address book on the go.

Infotainment with COMAND online

The COMAND Online multimedia system offers the most extensive functions. The latest generation of this infotainment system is installed in both the E-Class and the new S-Class. It has an Internet browser and combines all audio, telephone and navigation functions. A WiFi hotspot is permanently integrated: Up to three passengers can connect their devices to the Internet – without their own SIM card. One particularly user-friendly feature is the two high-resolution displays with a 12.3-inch screen diagonal each. All COMAND Online functions can be displayed and controlled via this "widescreen cockpit".

Information in real time – whether about the traffic or the weather

Thus, Mercedes-Benz Apps can also be used during the journey: What will the weather be like at the destination? What does fuel cost at the moment? Which car park is still open? The system provides information in real time and displays it directly on the navigation map. The Live Traffic Information service also provides up-to-date and accurate traffic information including car-to-x alert notifications. The data are transmitted via an integrated communication module. From this, the navigation system calculates dynamic route guidance and displays it in realistic, topographical maps – including sights in 3-D. Individual entertainment is provided by Internet radio and audio streaming etc.

Steering without looking

The more complex the applications, the more important is their simple control: Mercedes-Benz therefore offers a whole range of intuitive input methods. The latest innovation is the Touch Control buttons directly in the spokes of the steering wheel. Their surface reacts to wiping movements in the same way as a smartphone. And the driver's hands remain on the steering wheel. There is also a touchpad available on the center console. It is also very easy for the front passenger to use this with single or multi-finger gestures (multitouch). Numbers or special characters can also be entered in the form of handwriting.

Voice control: Talking is Priceless

The car has for a long time been developing more and more into a discussion partner: A Bluetooth interface with hands-free function is also part of the equipment of COMAND Online. A further addition is the Voice Control System LINGUATRONIC. It is possible to control all of the entertainment and navigation by voice command with this system. All of this helps the driver to concentrate fully on the road.
