Last year, the workforce of about 2,000 employees produced just over 50,000 vans, a significant increase over 2014 and a feat last achieved in 2008. Ludwigsfelde plays an important role in the global production network of Mercedes-Benz Vans. It is Mercedes-Benz' third-largest van plant in the world and the only plant in Europe for the open versions of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. In addition, the plant plays a leading role in the network with respect to innovative production systems.
At present, Mercedes-Benz Vans is making the Ludwigsfelde Plant fit for the future and is setting the course for the production of the next Sprinter generation. The business unit will invest € 150 million into the plant by the end of the decade, € 50 million of which was invested in 2016 alone.
