The Mercedes-Benz Gaggenau plant was founded in 1894 as „Bergmann-Industriewerke GmbH“ and is the oldest automobile plant of the world.
With around 6,450 employees, it is both the city's biggest employer and the biggest company offering vocational training in the region. In addition to transmissions for all Mercedes-Benz vehicle divisions, the facility also produces planetary gear axles and portal axles as well as torque converters. The Mercedes-Benz Gaggenau Plant is the center of competence for commercial vehicle transmissions in the international production network of Mercedes-Benz. The plant's employees provide support for quality management activities worldwide as well as on-site start-up support and train international teams at Gaggenau.
