The number of calories a person burns during a workday depends on many factors, especially the kind of work he or she does and his or her body weight. So it’s no wonder that most of our colleagues have a hollow feeling, or even a noticeable rumbling, in their tummies at some point between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Luckily for them, the employees of Mercedes-Benz Gastronomie GmbH engage in a daily battle against hunger — in the 30 canteens at 11 Daimler locations in Germany, for example. About 40,000 lunches in all are sold there every day. That adds up to 9.6 million lunches annually. In addition, there are about 70 bistros and shops where Daimler employees can buy snacks at lunchtime or during their other breaks. In all of its canteens, shops, and bistros put together, Daimler’s catering branch handles about 23 million transactions per year.

And the icing on the cake, the cherry on top, or the crème de la crème (feel free to choose the term that tastes best to you) is the fact that Daimler Gastronomie is the biggest company-operated institutional catering business in Germany.

In any case, enjoy!

In this column we present interesting, odd, or generally unknown facts from the world of Mercedes-Benz. We publish a new story in the series of “100 things you should know about Mercedes-Benz” regularly here on Mercedes-Benz Magazine.
