The plant of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Rus is located in the Moscow Region. It is about 30 km north-west from the center of the capital of Russia. It is a fast-developing region with newly created industrial areas. I noticed the trend that many international companies relocate their production sites and offices from Moscow to the region. Moscow region is also a good place to live, especially for young families with children. The infrastructure comprises kindergartens, schools, universities, and hobby and sport clubs. Large shopping malls and outlet villages are also located in the neighborhood.
Mercedes-Benz Moscovia plant (Russia)
I still remember my first working day – 04th of May 2016. It was not just my first day at work, it was the start of a new chapter in my life, the beginning of my “star journey”. When Axel Bense was nominated as CEO of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Rus in 2017 and started looking for the first employees, I was dreaming about getting a long-term employment in the supply chain department at the new plant. I am glad that I had a chance to start my “star journey” in the new and challenging project.

Moscow offers cultural diversity
I am living in a cozy apartment in a calm district and it takes me about 1 hour to get to the center of Moscow with all its variety of cultural offerings. Mostly I prefer to visit events, concerts, festivals, exhibitions and markets. By the way, most of the offers are free of charge.
One of the places I love the most, is the central market, where you can try dishes from different cuisines as South Korea, Thailand, India, Georgia, Germany and for sure Russia. In addition, pop-, jazz-bands and DJ performances are organized there on Fridays. Usually it is the place with high concentration of interesting people. I always meet new friends there.
Another advantage of the location of our plant is the forest it is surrounded by. That is why we always have fresh air. And you can imagine, how beautiful the surroundings look like in the winter when snow is falling.
The production offers some technical highlights
The most important for me in my daily job at the plant is that I can see, feel and touch the results of the work – the Mercedes-Benz Cars! The product portfolio of the plant includes four of the best-selling Mercedes-Benz models in the Russian market. Next months will be even more interesting due to increasing variety
Talking about production, it is unique that all areas of the plant are integrated under one roof. The production area and the office are connected with each other by a huge glass front allowing insights from both sides. There are also some technical highlights such as, for example, intelligent shopping cart supply concept with just-in-time and just-in-sequence delivery of parts to the lines, Automatically Guided Vehicles, which are autonomously transporting the car bodies between the shops, eco-friendly approaches with re-usable packaging and zero-emission fork-lifts and application of latest safety and ergonomic standards to ensure a human-robot-cooperation.
A modern workplace concept contributes to a great working atmosphere
A modern workspace concept is implemented in the administration area and offers a lot of space for meetings, brainstorm sessions and creative exchange. Our canteen has a nice terrace and during summer you can enjoy lunch with colleagues outside. All this contributes to the team spirit.
There are a lot of interesting colleagues and a great working atmosphere. We also have tennis and football tables. Sometimes I bring some homemade cakes or pancakes to my colleagues and we drink a coffee and exchange some insights of the day. I think that only people can make us go forward and achieve our goals.
A team as a family
We are here like a large family. The whole team is really friendly. Everyone is supporting me and I always take care about my colleagues. For example, people, who joined the team first, are helping new colleagues to get into the new job and feel themselves comfortable in the new working environment. If people are looking for positive inputs, I am always happy to cheer them up with my optimistic attitude. I am really glad that I can share my knowledge and experiences and learn from the others.
Looking at my typical day at work, I for sure begin it with a cup of coffee. All supply chain related processes in our plant have been designed completely from the scratch based on the local needs. Day-to-day implementation of such processes require involvement of a high number of interfaces. My job is also about communication with numerous colleagues from various Daimler companies involved in the supply chain process. But no matter where we are all located, we have a common goal – the production of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
The family day as an event of coming together
Our plant has also an interesting link to the history of Mercedes-Benz. For example, all meeting rooms are named after cities visited by Gottlieb Daimler during his memorable journey through Russia in 1881.
A day, which will for sure stay in my memory, is the Family Day that took place in August 2019 for the first time. Every employee could bring his family and friends. There were a lot of interesting areas prepared for the day, as for example, trampoline, dance zone, a sport car exposition and plane simulators. The entertainment program was covered by various music bands consisting of colleagues.
I also had a chance to sing on the stage. I performed the song “We are the champions” and it was really cool. I received a lot of good feedback. It is always about the best or nothing.
If you would ask me about my favorite Mercedes-Benz products, it is the Mercedes-Benz Maybach and Mercedes-AMG GT. For me they are combining Mercedes-Benz values such as strict elegance and modern design, speed and safety, comfort and sustainability. These models are so different, but they have one in common – the luxury of the future. Depending on the occasion, they give you the opportunity to be a business man, a celebrity, a driver or a family guy. I am proud of our products and our company.
