The integration of the latest technological developments in the automotive industry is both a goal and a challenge. In the field of study Automation, the focus is on hardware and software solutions in process automation.

Theory

Basic subjects include mathematics, physics, digital technology, electronics and measurement technology, computer science, electrical engineering, control engineering and microcomputer technology.

The specific modules teach e.g. industrial bus systems, real-time systems, robotics and autonomous systems.

Practical experience

During the practical phase you will gain experience e.g. in product and process development, measurement and testing technology, planning, production and quality assurance or in project management.

Fields of application

  • In process development: You plan and develop electrotechnical systems, optimize systems and processes for production, integrate robotics applications into production and thus actively shape our path to the Smart Factory and Industry 4.0
  • In production planning: You plan and procure appropriate systems in close contact with suppliers, test them, ensure their introduction and communicate with the operators

Electrical Engineering and Information Technology/Automotive Electronics

The integration of the latest technological developments in the automotive industry is both a goal and a challenge. In the degree program Electrical Engineering and Information Technology/Automotive Electronics, autonomous driving and alternative driving concepts are addressed to a particular extent.

Theory

Basic subjects include, e.g. mathematics, physics, digital technology, electronics and measurement technology, computer science, electrical engineering, control engineering and microcomputer technology.

Practical experience

During the practical phases, you will gain experience, for example, in product and process development, measurement and testing technology, planning, production and quality assurance or project management.

In the specific modules, you will learn e.g. vehicle technology and vehicle electronics, bus systems and simulation technology, driver assistance systems and electric drives.

Fields of application

  • In vehicle development: design and optimization of electric motors in interaction with power electronics, analysis of complex interrelationships taking into account the influences of regulation and control, cooperation with vehicle design, overall vehicle design, departments responsible for components and external service providers; planning and implementation of the necessary functional tests in the system network, on test benches and in test vehicles.
  • In quality management: monitoring of the component scope from the initial conceptual idea through the development phase to sampling and release of the component. You accompany the construction and commissioning of the production line of our suppliers up to the release. In doing so, you monitor compliance with Mercedes-Benz quality requirements.
  • In development: development of the electric powertrain, HV systems (battery), driver assistance systems and electric/electronic (E/E) architecture (assistance systems, infotainment, energy management).

Theory

In addition to the basic subjects of mathematics and physics as well as design, technical mechanics and strength of materials theory, you will acquire a broad knowledge of various manufacturing processes.

Practical training

Training courses on control technology, CNC technology, CAD and other topics bring you into contact with the entire range of tasks and applications in mechanical engineering - and with the company in which you can make a career. From the third practical semester onwards, you will work independently on projects in specialist areas and, for example, investigate new manufacturing processes.

In addition to the classic mechanical engineering fundamentals of design, mechanics, strength, materials, manufacturing, and thermodynamics, a multidisciplinary foundation in electrical engineering and computer science is taught from the beginning of the program.

Mechatronics/Electromobility and Vehicle Systems Engineering

For those who want to play an active role in shaping modern locomotion, the Mechatronics/Electromobility and Vehicle Systems Engineering course of study offers extensive opportunities. The degree program primarily combines content from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information technology and, to a certain extent, business administration, thus creating a solid basis for complex, interdisciplinary interrelationships. These fundamentals are supplemented by specific content, e.g. energy storage, safety in high-voltage systems, electromobility technology and systems, and lightweight construction.

Theory

You will acquire a sound knowledge of mathematics, physics, design, materials, electrical engineering, electronics, computer science and programming. From the 3rd semester onwards, you will deepen your knowledge and specialize in a field of study such as vehicle systems engineering and electromobility. This involves combining different subjects and determining additional content. After six semesters, you will complete your studies with the "Bachelor of Engineering".

Practical experience

You will be integrated into day-to-day business, take on tasks independently and thus quickly develop the skills to solve problems and make decisions. Specific courses on CAD, automotive engineering, programming and electrical engineering, as well as project tasks, complete your practical knowledge.

  • Project engineer: a wide variety of tasks, e.g. in connection with the engine and its peripherals
